PHOENIX

Phoenix - April 12, 2002

I was renamed Phoenix because I was severely burnt in a fire (approx 50% burns). My life changed dramatically on 24th August, 2001.

On the previous day I was castrated and I was just starting to feel better from the surgery when my barn went up in flames. There were eight of us in the barn and only two of us survived. We were taken to Hagyard, Davidson and McGee veterinary clinic but my friend did not make it.

Because my owner abandoned me at the clinic I had no home to be released to. The Four Harmony Foundation was contacted and on Friday, 28th September, 2001 and I was taken to Pine Knoll Farm my new home. I was so happy to leave the hospital and be with other horses. Everyone is so good to me – I know how much they care and want to help me recover quickly. Which I am doing – I feel better every day! I even enjoy a little run and play in the paddock with my buddy Cody (see picture).

Even after all the trauma and pain I have been through I really love people and attention. I am still in the healing process and intend to have an exceptional recovery. I believe I can be an inspiration to all – especially in light of the tragedy on 11th September! There were many people burnt that day and I want to show them how well I am recovering.

This photo of Phoenix was taken August 25, 2001.

Although this image might be disturbing to some of you, he is recovering well.

He loves attention and will come running to you when called. He is frequently seen running and playing with his donkey buddies. He has received a number of visitors since he has been at Pine Knoll Farm and he has particularly enjoyed the apples and carrots they brought for him.

We thank you for the generous donations people have been sending to Phoenix.
